About me
I am a jewellery designer and maker based in the Kent seaside town of Whitstable.
I first began making jewellery in the 1990s, carving coconut shell found on beaches whilst travelling in India, and using fimo modelling clay to make fluorescent, geometric necklaces which I sold to clubbers at the vibrant dance music events of the day.
My love of metalsmithing began during a foundation course at the Kent Institute of Art and Design (now UCA) where I experimented with copper and brass, producing bowls, sculptures and a water fountain. Wanting to take these skills further I enrolled on a BA course in silversmithing, goldsmithing and jewellery design, graduating in 2005.
My work takes inspiration from Asian iconography, from science fiction, and from the landscape around me, the north Kent coast and the ancient woodlands of the Blean. My focus is on combining the universal archetypes of geometry, with organic textures and curves, to create bold, elegant statement pieces that exist outside of any particular time or culture.
All pieces are individually hand crafted by me using traditional metalsmithing techniques. Gemstones are carefully selected for their quality and shape, with particular focus on colour, pattern and the play of light.
I am a member of the Guild of Jewellery Designers.
